Thanking our Volunteers

Principal Mrs Dunwoody hosted the Thank You Volunteers Evening to acknowledge and thank volunteers who contributed their time and effort to the school throughout 2022.

Over 90 volunteers attended the event and Mrs Dunwoody personally thanked parent volunteers from the Parents & Friends Association committee, Friends of Second Hand Uniform Shop (SHUS), Friends of Sport, Friends of Performing Arts, Year Level representatives, CGGS Dads Group and parents who have helped in various events or activities throughout the year.

There are a few Year 12 parents whose commitment and support have been unwavering throughout the years, and we would like to acknowledge and thank the following parent volunteers for their commendable roles and service to the school:

  • Terry McAleenan & Sue Lee (Eun Bee)
  • Tracey & Richard Tremewen (Isabella)
  • Angelo Caruso (Belinda)
  • Kate Locke (Isabella)
  • Tanya Clifton (Frida)
  • Vicki Gazi (Anthea)
  • Annabelle Brant (Lucy)
  • Teresa Mead (Past Parent, Cate)

Alumnae volunteers also attended, and Mrs Dunwoody thanked the Old Grammarians Association committee, along with other old grammarians for supporting the school by presenting at career and mentoring events, participating in the World of Work Year 9 interviews, writing letters of encouragement for the Year 12s and other many other important activities.

As you would have read in Mrs Dunwoody’s editorial, the event was a huge success and it was a wonderful opportunity to thank and acknowledge our volunteers for their support and contribution to the school.

PFA Gingerbread House Fundraising

Thank you to all the families who have supported the PFA Gingerbread fundraising initiative this year. We are delighted to report that we have already raised approximately $500 from this fundraising activity, which will be donated back to the school to assist in improving your student’s educational journey at CGGS.

Gingerbread houses were distributed to families yesterday, and we received feedback below from one Junior School family:

“I am Yolanda’s parent from Year 2. After receiving the pre-ordered Christmas gingerbread, our family eagerly completed it tonight. This is also our way of supporting the school’s fundraising activities. Thank you for this meaningful activity that has made this Christmas warmer.”

We hope all our families enjoy making the gingerbread house or giving it as a gift.

There is still an opportunity to purchase one of the last remaining gingerbread houses:

Service Learning

Old Grammarian Mandy Mandie (1977) returned to the school to speak at our Chaplain’s assembly about her family’s Foundation, Koala Kids. Koala Kids was set up by her son in 2005 to help children with cancer. Mandy is delighted to be partnered with CGGS where our students will be making Christmas activity kits to be distributed to several hospitals with children that are receiving treatment. CGGS students will also be collecting toys for the Koala Kids to give out to the sick and in our Maker Space, they will create decorations for the treatment masks that the children need to wear during cancer treatment.

Thanks to Sara, 2024 School Vice Captain and Tyra the 2024 Service Learning Captain for their work and support in making this happen.
