Meet our Cats!

Cats - Senior School Production

Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show is set amongst a larger- than-life junkyard playground and is alive with our favourite feline characters including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr. Mistoffelees, Macavity,Jennyanydots, Old Deuteronomy, Grizabella and Skimbleshanks.

The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year – the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of their leader Old Deuteronomy, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn.

Show commences at 7pm
Barabara Sutton Hall

Alice Pung

Growing up Asian in Australia

Alice Pung is one of Australia’s most talented and celebrated young writers. A child of Chinese immigrants, Pung was raised in Melbourne’s western suburbs. She burst onto the literary scene when she was just 25 with her award-winning memoir, Unpolished Gem. A lawyer and teacher, she has written children’s and young-adult fiction, as well as a novel exploring her father’s experiences on the Cambodian Killing Fields. Pung conceived of and edited the hugely popular anthology Growing Up Asian in Australia, a collection of stories that give voice to the children of Asian immigrants.

Come and hear one of Australia’s most sought-after public speakers discuss her life, work and influences.

Artist-in-Residence 2016

Latest News

Artist-in-Residence 2016

Camberwell Girls Visual Arts Department operates an Artist-in-Residence programme. This provides our students with an insight into the working methods of professional artists.

The main aim of the programme is to increase the engagement of students and teachers in creative practice by giving them an opportunity to interact with and observe an artist at work.

During their stay the artist gives talks and conducts workshops. Their studio is set up within the Art Department for the duration of their stay which enables both students and staff to witness first hand their creative process.

This year our Artist-in-Residence is Geoff Cunningham.

Geoff has been a full time artist since 2007. He specialises in stencil paintings and also works extensively with acrylic paint and linocut printing. Geoff was a finalist in the Gallipoli Art Prize (2016).

Medical Marijuana

Earlier this year the Federal Government passed historical legislation allowing the growing of cannabis for medical and scientific purposes. This is the culmination of a long, perhaps protracted campaign from the grassroots up.

With this in mind Camberwell Girls grammar School is pleased to offer you a chance to join our first In Conversation for the year on this subject.

We are fortunate to welcome as our guest Mary-Anne Thomas MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Health to the State premier, Daniel Andrews, who will explore this topic, and surround any ‘issues’.

Please feel free to join us for a drink prior to the starting time.

This In Conversation is open to our school students, teachers and community.
